What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are metal posts designed to fully replace a missing tooth. During a brief surgical procedure, your dentist places the implant into the jawbone where the tooth root once was. This implant acts as a foundation for a restoration, like a dental crown, replicating the appearance and functionality of a natural tooth.

Deciding to proceed with a dental implant is an important choice. If you’re exploring this option and feel uncertain about the process, we’re here to help. Our priority is to provide clear and thorough information so you can make an informed decision about your dental care.

Dr Mang is highly skilled with an impressive resume, the hygienists are thorough and gentle, and Charmaine at front desk is friendly and efficient. In addition, Dr Mang provides Orthodontics services for kids which have proven to be much much more cost effective than what I was quoted at the orthodontist office for the same service and orthodontic device. This is a gem of a dental office, I’m very grateful to have it so close to home!

Why You May Need Implants

Teeth play an important role in supporting the shape of your smile, aiding in proper chewing, and ensuring clear speech.

Missing teeth can cause the remaining ones to shift out of position, potentially leading to alignment problems and other oral health concerns. Losing even one tooth can create a domino effect, impacting your dental health, facial appearance, and overall well-being.

Bone resorption is another issue that occurs when teeth are lost. This natural process breaks down unused bone tissue in the jaw, redistributing its minerals elsewhere in the body. Teeth apply pressure to the jawbone, promoting new bone growth. When this pressure disappears, the bone diminishes over time, causing a weakened jawline, wrinkles, and a sunken appearance in the cheeks and lips.

Dental implants are an excellent alternative to natural teeth, helping to restore function and aesthetics while preventing or addressing these issues. They support both your oral health and facial structure, ensuring a long-lasting solution.

What You Can Anticipate During Your Dental Implant Treatment

The process of placing a dental implant is typically much more comfortable than most people expect.

Assessment

Your journey begins with a thorough evaluation to determine if implants are right for you. This includes X-rays and a 3D cone-beam CT scan to evaluate your jawbone’s condition and create a detailed treatment plan. An impression or scan of your teeth will also be taken to ensure precise placement of the implant.

Setting The Implant

An anaesthetic is applied to numb the area completely before the procedure starts. The dentist makes a small incision in the gum and prepares the bone for the implant post, which is then inserted into the jaw. Depending on the situation, stitches may be used to close the gum tissue.

Finishing Up

Once the implant has healed over a few months, you’ll return to the clinic to complete the process. At this visit, the restoration, such as a crown, will be securely attached to the implant, leaving you with a fully restored, functional tooth.

Your consultation will include an examination of everything from your teeth, gums and soft tissues to the shape and condition of your bite. Generally, we want to see how your whole mouth looks and functions. Before we plan your treatment we want to know everything about the health and aesthetic of your smile, and most importantly, what you want to achieve so we can help you get there.

The Cost Of An Implant In Breslau

The price of a single dental implant in Breslau generally ranges from $3,000 to $6,000 or higher. For full-mouth implant procedures, costs can start at approximately $6,000 and may exceed $60,000, with implant-supported dentures averaging around $30,000. Due to the complexity and variability of the procedure, it is challenging to provide an exact estimate over the phone.

Factors that influence the cost of dental implants include:

  • The number and type of implants required.
  • The materials and tools utilised in the procedure.
  • The experience and skill level of the dental team overseeing your care.
  • The location and difficulty of the surgery.
  • The recovery process, including follow-up care from our team.

Because every case is unique, an in-person consultation and oral evaluation are necessary to determine your specific needs and offer tailored treatment options. We’d be happy to provide a detailed quote following an assessment.

Are there alternatives to dental implants?
For patients missing one to three teeth, dental bridges may provide a solution. For significant tooth loss, either in an entire arch or the whole mouth, dental prosthetics or removable dentures could be considered.

Although dental implants require a higher initial investment, they deliver superior stability and durability compared to bridges or dentures. Removable prosthetics often need ongoing adjustments or replacements, whereas implants can be cared for like natural teeth with regular brushing, flossing, and dental visits. With proper maintenance, implants can last a lifetime.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dental implants are designed to look indistinguishable from natural teeth. The metal screws are hidden beneath your gums and topped with realistic restorations that seamlessly blend with the rest of your smile.

Implants and dentures serve different purposes and function uniquely. Dentures rest on the gums and apply pressure to the bone beneath, while implants are anchored securely below the gums, enhancing your bite. Both options have their own benefits and drawbacks, so an in-person consultation is recommended to determine the best choice for your needs.

If dental implants aren’t suitable, options like dental bridges or full and partial dentures may be effective solutions for replacing missing teeth. A consultation will help you explore these alternatives and address any specific questions you have about your treatment options.

Implants are typically recommended for adults with good oral health. Adequate jawbone strength and healthy gum tissue are essential to support the implant and reduce the risk of complications. If you’re unsure whether you qualify, reach out to discuss your concerns. There are often ways to improve oral health to make implants possible, along with alternative solutions to consider.

Yes! Crowns, bridges, or implant-supported dentures are custom-designed to replicate the shape and colour of your natural teeth and align perfectly with your bite. Most patients find it hard to distinguish between their implants and their original teeth.

Thanks to advancements in dental implant technology, the process is highly reliable and minimally uncomfortable. With careful planning and precision, the procedure is designed to minimise any pain. Post-procedure, most patients experience little swelling and very minimal bleeding. Let us know if you have concerns, and we’ll work to make your experience as comfortable as possible.

Most patients can return to work the day after their implant surgery. Once your treatment plan is finalized, we’ll provide a detailed recovery timeline and discuss any potential need for additional time off. You’ll also receive thorough post-operative care instructions to ensure a smooth healing process.
